Amy Grant Live - Ft. Worth, TX
April 11 & 12, 2006

What a memorable event. I met up with my friend Ben
(left) out in Ft. Worth to go see Amy tape her live DVD.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Ft. Worth the first 2 nights, then moved to the Ft. Worth
Hilton the last night where most of FOA (and Amy & Vince) stayed. This was
especially exciting because the hotel put us in the room right next to Amy and
Vince. Don't worry...we behaved ourselves and didn't get into any trouble.
Thought it was cool meeting up w/other Amy fans who wanted to hang out in our
room all day to see if Amy was around. We only saw Amy walk out of her room once, and into her room
once, and we didn't even say hi to her...just let her have her space (at least
for the afternoon...).
Meeting
w/all the FOA'ers was a blast as always. Everyone of course was on such an
Amy high in anticipation. Most of the fans there had met her
several times already, but it was cool to talk to those who hadn't, and see the
excitement in themselves. We met up at a local restaurant and took
pictures, listened to music, shared stories and memories, and really just built
up the excitement for all the events that were about to happen.
The first concert was absolutely great! What a blast.
It was great to have her start the show with people standing for the first
time in 10 years!(audio) She did her normal songs, Vince came out and
did some songs, the audience sung Happy Birthday (audio) to him, and of
course, I brought her potato chips (audio).
As usual, I
requested the Wallet Song, and Amy said she'd sing in the next day...that didn't
happen because we ran out of time at the Coffee, and then I didn't remind her
until it was too late in the second show. Oh well, no bigee. Now
here's the strange thing...I don't know why I like th
e song...it's a really bad
song to be honest, but for whatever reason, I love it. The first time I
heard it was in 1996 at the Nashville Christmas when Amy opened the new
Auditorium. Gina brought her guitar to that meet and greet, and Amy played
it by request. So...a few months later in September, I was in Las Vegas
with a few friends of mine. We went to Harrahs to play poker and sat at
this table for a couple hours. I left to go play some craps, but my friend
stayed at the table. Somehow, it comes up that my name is John Lam, and
the girl who was sitting in between us (now, just next to my friend) says...John
Lam...that sounds so familiar. She then asks my friend if I am
an Amy
Grant fan, to which he says yes of course. Turns out, she is Gina's
cousin. Totally small world...but it was just such a funny experience.
Oh ya, right before the encore, she sang Grape Grape Joy
(audio) which was so much fun! Anyway, after the show, we had the
meet and greet, where the pictures above are from. Unfortunately, we were
last in line, and since it was getting late, we of course
got rushed through the line very quickly. But not to worry, we were going
to visit with her tomorrow.
The next morning, we
went to Coffee with Amy. This was probably the largest fan club event that FOA has thrown since the 1996 Christmas Meet and Greet in Tennessee. Amy
sang a couple songs with her guitar including Come Into My World (video),
Mimi's House (video), Gene came and sang some, Alan got to sing harmony, we
took pictures, Jake sang a Missing you with
Amy (video), we ate breakfast, and some of the fans even sang a
tribute/parody
to Amy (video)...very memorable!
Before the concert, we hung out in a room
down the hall from Amy, and then went to dinner with a bunch of FOA'ers.
Complete coincidence, but Vince Gill was eating dinner there, so we sang him
Happy Birthday again (video). The
second night of the concert was just as great as the first -
quick sample (video). We even got some bonus singing because they had to
redo several tracks for the DVD. Unfortunately, because of the time, they
cancelled the meet and greet after the show. This left many fans
disappointed since we paid quite a bit of money for those tickets, but y'know...nothing
at that point could have ruined our great week.
After the show, we went
back to the hotel and hung out. Amy and Vince came back quite a bit
later...at the same time 4 of my friends happened to be walking up to our room.
We exited the elevator and went straight to our room...Amy was just walking
through their door, and she kind of looked at us, with a "you're not following
me, are you?" look. But we were well behaved and just went straight into
our room.
Please enjoy the photos and videos! These are the pictures taken by a number of fans who all were so kind as to share them with many of us: Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4, Page 5, Page 6
