"It's tough to whip out in 90 minutes, in time for next week's worship time, something that 200 years from now people are going to be singing. To me, it's like hearing a pop song on the radio and comparing it to Handel's Messiah. One has its place for the moment. The other has its place in history."
-- Amy Grant

For those of us old enough to remember a time when worship was simple, the hymns of the church are more than just dusty old songs that no one wants to sing anymore. They are rich with memories, stories, praise and adoration. Every once in awhile, a contemporary artist takes them off the shelf, dusts them off and records them for the next generation. It is rare, but beautiful, when an artist sings them with the passion and respect our grandmothers would appreciate. In Legacy... Hymns & Faith, Amy Grant does exactly that.

Musically, this project has a "down home" acoustic, country feel. Besides classic hymns, the album includes four new songs-- What You Already Own, written by Grant; The River's Gonna Keep on Rollin', written by husband Vince Gill; Do You Remember?, written by Grant, Gill and Keith Thomas; and Imagine, written by Bart Millard of MercyMe. The hymns on this project include It is Well, Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing, My Jesus, I Love Thee, Be Still My Soul, Fairest Lord Jesus and This is My Father's World.

Although I love the hymns, my favorite on this album is the song, What You Already Own, a beautiful reminder that God will never let go of us no matter how unfaithful we are.

Perhaps it is because just the sound of Amy's voice reminds me of a time when my faith was new, but there is something special about this album. Even though Amy has been through trials and made some mistakes, her triumph in Christ shows in the passionate way she brings us these songs. Among all of Amy's award-winning albums, I think this may be her best ever.
