Artists recognized for their connection with Seminar in the Rockies
Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith were honored by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) as the first recipients of the newly created Seminar in the Rockies Summit Award at the conclusion of 29th Annual Seminar in the Rockies event in Estes Park last Friday.
The Summit Award was recently created by the GMA to honor individuals, groups or organizations in the Christian music industry that have demonstrated remarkable achievement over time, and have a meaningful connection with Seminar in the Rockies.
"Seminar in the Rockies has firmly established itself as the Christian music industry’s most vital retreat time each year for professional, spiritual and artistic development for both professionals and industry hopefuls. It's a time of renewal, refreshment and discovery for our industry and artists. The Summit Award gives us an opportunity to honor the contributions of those in our community who have helped Christian music reach new artistic and commercial heights," said John W. Styll, president of the GMA. Styll, who presented the Summit Award as a surprise to Grant and Smith during the closing concert of the week-long event, added, "Amy and Michael exemplify the Summit Award. Each has a rich history at Seminar in the Rockies at Estes Park and each is celebrating milestones in their individual careers (Amy at 25 years and Michael at 20 years) while continuing their artistic and professional contributions to the Christian music industry."
The Seminar in the Rockies Summit Award trophies presented to Grant and Smith were engraved individually. Grant’s read "For 25 years of unparalleled achievement and influence in the artistry, growth and impact of contemporary Christian music." Smith’s award read "For 20 years of outstanding achievement as a songwriter and artist, and for your vision and example in impacting the culture for Christ."
