Del McCoury Band — Though he began his
career in the 1960s as lead singer and guitarist for Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass
Boys, Del McCoury didn’t really hit his stride for another 30 years, when he put
his sons to work in his own group. McCoury’s band is the most awarded band in
bluegrass history, with nine Entertainer of the Year nods from the International
Bluegrass Music Association and a 2005 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy for The
Company We Keep. The band’s latest disc, The Promised Land, is an all-gospel
release. McCoury and his boys be touring this summer with Vince Gill and Amy
Grant in support of Gill’s massive four-disc CD set These Days, which features
McCoury and the boys on several tracks. K. Oliver
