LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Female singers spanning the generations and genres joined forces this week to perform at a charity concert for breast cancer.

The lineup of ``Women Rock! Girls and Guitars'' boasted rockers Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Anne & Nancy Wilson of Heart and Cyndi Lauper, country singer Wynonna, contemporary Christian veteran Amy Grant and R&B trio Destiny's Child.

They played solo and together for the 3-1/2-hour extravaganza, which was taped Thurday at the Wiltern Theater and will screen in a two-hour special on the Lifetime women's cable network on Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).

The musicians were helped out by celebrity presenters including actressesAllison Janney, Holly Hunter and Jenna Elfman and comedian Ellen DeGeneres, who attended with new girlfriend Alexandra Hedison.

The event kicked off with Wynonna, Crow, Etheridge and Anne Wilson trading vocals on the Heart song ``Barracuda.''

Among the solo performances were Crow with ``If It Makes You Happy'' and Etheridge with ``I'm The Only One.'' Lauper and Anne Wilson offered an indirect tribute to breast cancer victim Linda McCartney by duetting on a version of Paul McCartney's ''Maybe I'm Amazed.''

Since country singers often give Los Angeles a wide berth, Wynonna acknowledged she was playing in unfamiliar territory by asking the mostly female crowd, ``Do you even know who I am?'' after playing ``Girls with Guitars.''

At a party afterwards, Etheridge said she had a blast.

``It was so cool. Everyone from Sheryl ... Anne and Nancy Wilson, and Wynonna -- people that I'd never thought I'd get to rock out with. It was a really great spirit up there.''

The concert benefited the National Alliance of Breast Cancer (news - web sites) Organizations and the National Breast Cancer Coalition.
